Wind Energy—But in the Right Place

We are not fundamentally opposed to wind energy. On the contrary: Expanding renewable energy is important.

However, we advocate for prioritizing sites

• on land that is already paved or contaminated,
• along transportation routes and in industrial areas,
• in commercial zones,
• as well as in places where the electricity generated can be consumed immediately.

This allows us to better protect natural and forested areas while simultaneously reducing long transport distances.

Protection of the Theiß Valley Nature Reserve

The Theiß Valley is one of the most scenically valuable areas in our region. It provides an important habitat for numerous animal and plant species and serves as a place of peace and relaxation for many people.

Interventions in established forest ecosystems are often permanent and can have impacts on soil, the water cycle, and biodiversity. That is why we call for a careful evaluation of all alternatives before forest areas are utilized.

Water Is the Foundation of Our Lives

Healthy forests are an essential part of the natural water cycle. They store precipitation, promote groundwater recharge, and help protect our drinking water resources.

This aspect is becoming increasingly important, especially in times of growing drought. Therefore, potential impacts on the water cycle should be transparently assessed in all planning processes and presented in a way that is publicly understandable.

Equitable Distribution Instead of Unequal Burden

Not every municipality has the same natural conditions for wind energy. Therefore, expansion should be balanced at both the regional and supraregional levels.

We suggest considering models in which regions with particularly favorable conditions make a greater contribution, while other municipalities are relieved of the burden accordingly. In this way, the energy transition could be shaped collaboratively and fairly, without placing an excessive burden on individual natural areas.
